I started smoking at age 13 – it wasn’t until this winter at age 34 and 130 pounds I had my gallbladder out. While I was in the hospital an older very gray looking woman was admitted due to COPD and other smoking related illness. Since I was in the Hospital for a few days I decided it was a perfect time to quit. I asked for the patch and for a prescription for it, surprisingly I was not encouraged by the surgeon, in fact he told me I probably would not be successful. I pushed and 7 months my last cigarette was the morning I want to the ER over 7 months ago, thank god for the gum! Seeing that ghost of the future certainly helped me make up my mind that after 21 years, it was time to quit.
